Senior expertise on every brief. No juniors.

Pete Robins

Founder & Planner

Still calling himself a media planner, Pete’s been in the media agency world for over 32 years. In that time he’s founded 4 other agencies, and worked at a couple of the best agencies out there. He was the first digital media planner in the UK in the mid 90’s, chaired the IPA’s Digital Media Group for over 10 years, sat on the main council and was made a Fellow of the IPA a number of years ago.

He founded Project5 on the realisation there is more opportunity to do advanced effective media now than ever before. It’s complex with only a tiny minority exploiting the art of the possible, therefore the people who do will win. He also became unemployable so had no choice.

He did his first triathlon in 1995 before it was trendy, and somehow now manages to qualify for the British Age Group team, racing internationally when not too tired from being a “dad taxi”.

Sam Drake

Executive Director

Sam brings over 20 years of experience across both independent and network media agencies, beginning his career in 2004. He has held roles at Publicis and Goodstuff, working with brands of all sizes across multiple categories.

Career highlights include receiving an IPA Effectiveness Gold for his work on Yorkshire Tea, acting as a launch partner for the Ozone partnership in the UK, and building products, services, and operations that elevate thinking and output across the business.

While Sam has held client, growth, and product leadership roles agency-side, he remains a media planner at heart — working with senior clients to demonstrate how proper media planning can deliver tangible outcomes that really matter. Operationally, he brings the skill and confidence to collaborate with internal specialists and external partners, consistently delivering best-in-class work and measurable results.

Outside of work, Sam is kept busy by his two daughters, can often be found dragging himself around a hockey pitch, and continues the emotional rollercoaster of supporting Everton F.C.

Leena Vara-Patel

Managing Partner for Data Eng & Tech

With over 25 years of experience spanning media, ad tech, agencies, and technology providers. She’s a seasoned leader known for building high-performing teams and helping businesses use data and technology to create real competitive advantage.

At Project5, Leena leads all things data and tech, from infrastructure and governance to the systems that power the agency’s work. She’s recognised for her practical, people-first approach and for making technology genuinely useful, not just impressive.

Outside of work, Leena is a part-time interior designer, enthusiastic plant parent (they all have names of course), and devoted Cavapoo mum to Loki—though she’s usually outvoted by her two teenagers at home.

Nick Lawson

Non Executive Chairman

Nick brings over three decades of experience at the pinnacle of the global media industry. As the former Global CEO of EssenceMediacom, he was a driving force behind transforming the network into a world-class powerhouse, redefining how media planning and investment operate at scale.

Throughout his career, Nick has navigated the shift from traditional media to today’s data-driven landscape for the world’s biggest brands. He is widely recognised as an inspirational leader who combines commercial rigour with a visionary outlook on the industry’s evolution - particularly regarding the impact of AI and data.

A media planner at heart, Nick remains passionate about the role of strategic thinking in driving business outcomes. He brings a sharp, seasoned perspective to how agencies can better deliver for clients in a complex market.

Outside of work, Nick captains his local cricket team, is a long-suffering but loyal Watford FC supporter, and spends as much time as possible watching (and occasionally attempting) sport of all kinds.
